I have a passion for the Natural World and focus on intricate detail

I’ve always been inquisitive and explored the natural world around me. I love intricate detail and my art focuses on meticulously describing all the beauty I see – be it a daisy plant, a bulky rhino or the face of a friend. I aim to produce realistic bespoke pieces that draw the observer in.

I have been a botanical illustrator at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew since 2002, it’s a wonderful and rewarding combination of art and science. Alongside these technically descriptive works I have always painted and drawn in various media.

Hazel is a gifted artist who works with precision and great attention to detail. Hazel’s work of pencil on drawing paper left me speechless when a portrait of my daughter and I was crafted in great detail articulating my laugh lines, every forming wrinkle and my short kinky afro. It would take a lot of convincing to believe it was not a photograph.

Hazel has an open engaging personality, and a zest for life which is evident in her art. She has diverse interests and is fascinated by the natural world. Her hard work, attention to detail and positive outlook on life, make spending time with her very rewarding. Hazel’s artistic talents are brilliant and expressed in a multitude of different forms. Her exquisite botanical illustrations reflect the eye of someone who sees minute details others might overlook - microscopic plant parts are both accurate and visually pleasing at the same time, with a breathtakingly life-like quality to them.
